This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog the focus is on perhaps one of the hardest aspects of cardmaking for many – making cards for men!
I decided to take on this challenge and try out a technique I’d had on my to-do list for a while.
Namely Distress Oxide ink smooshing on gloss paper….
Here’s the before:
Looks pretty dull and uninteresting right?
Well, once you take the oxide off by rubbing at it with Distress Glaze, it reveals something much more vibrant:
Now that I had a background made, it was time to make a card:
Stamps and die: MFT – Happy Birthday Blend
Inks: Distress Oxides, Lawn Fawn
Other: Distress Glaze, Glossy paper
I’ve listed all the Distress Oxide inks I used below. I wanted a nice mix of bold shades, but also a hit of black. I cannot tell you how cool it is to rub away at the Oxide layer to uncover the results below. Really wow!
And it looks even better in real life too. I have made a couple more ink smooshing experiments with the oxides on gloss card, so they may make it to a card.
I had a new greeting and die combo to try out for this card, and that’s the new MFT – Happy Birthday Blended set. I tried to mirror the colours of the background with Lawn Fawn die inks and I think they worked quite well. 🙂
