My card this week is definitely filled with love and hugs for my friend. I was sitting down to make my card at the weekend when I received the sad news that their dog Lola, who I dog sat many times over the years, had sadly passed away. 🙁
We had many wonderful adventures over the years, and she truly was a one-in-a-million pooch. July 2013 in particular was one jam-packed staycation with many early morning trips to the beach. We walked and walked, and she just loved having the place to herself. She would have walked the full day if she could – she even gave me a fright on the drive home one hot summer’s day after a trip to the beach. I thought something was wrong as it was all quite from her spot in the car. None of the usual sitting up peering out the window. I turned the music down and could immediately hear the reassuring (that time!) snoring reverberating over the sound of the engine. At the lack of music she perked up and immediately looked at me with an expression like: Silly human, what’s got you in a tizz? I was having a nice slumber there until you ruined the ambience. <sigh>
Happy, happy memories – and a few grey hairs.

So onto my card. When I received the news, I quickly knew what I wanted to make:

I started off with a plan to make the rainbow background cover, but using The Stamp Market ink refills as water colours on Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock. I like using Bazzill for this as an alternative to watercolour paper as it’s smooth but takes the water medium well. Neenah is definitely not the right card for this, it pills up and doesn’t allow you to blend the colour once down.
I was happy with the vibrant colours I got with the ink refills, and added a cloud background with a stencil from Simon Says Stamp using light blue and white Distress Oxide ink.
Finally, I added the heart and frame and the greeting to bring everything together.
