This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog Rizwana has challenged us to get ink on our card backgrounds. 😀
This is good news for my stash of ready-to-go background panels that I created last year when trying out techniques, like the ink smooshing technique I’ve used here.
The problem is of course that the panel that best worked for my project isn’t the easiest to photograph!

I used Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock for this technique as it copes well with mixed media applications – unlike Neenah which soaks up the ink right away and doesn’t allow it to blend or shift when wet.
So, I’m glad I remembered to use the right cardstock for the background – many a time I have tried wet ink/watercolour looks on Neenah and realised it was the wrong surface for what I wanted to achieve.
I smooshed a few aqua ink colours on a sheet of plastic, spritzed with water then “artfully” pressed the card into the inks.
Before adding any splatter, you need to make sure the first layer of ink is dry, so that the splatter adds that extra intense colour.
The little typewriter is a favourite and handily had the sentiment I needed in the stamp set too.
I think the main yellow colour is Harvest Gold from PTI and the lighter yellow for the keys is PTI Lemon Tart. Two very good and forgiving yellows. 😀
