There’s a brand-new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers Blog today, continuing the countdown to Christmas with one-word prompts.
This week, the theme is Light, and of course I had to go with a favourite “light” technique using masking paper!

I really love the effect masking paper can provide when combined with dies.
Just take a white card base, select some dies that work well as silhouettes like a hillside and little houses, cut them from masking paper, stick the masked images over your card base, then get blending with your chosen inks over the masked areas.
I went with a starry sky that has extra white Distress ink blended in a circle over the star mask to create extra glow.
While the masking pieces are still in place, splatter the background with white paint.
Peeling back the masking paper to reveal the silhouette outline never gets old. It’s magical every time!
Finally, I added a nice and big sentiment from an old favourite festive set from Lil’ Inker Designs. I also love the All The Christmas You’ll Ever Need 2 set, which has some great movie quotes on it, and I use that set to stamp the back of cards and envelopes for some extra festive fun. It always makes people smile when they see the Home Alone quote… keep the change you filthy animal! 😉
