Well, a new age has dawned over on Instagram.
Gone is the iconic focus on 1:1 square photos that made Instagram, well, Instagram.
Now many accounts have had their grids changed to a 4:5 ratio, and it’s taking some time to adjust to this big change. I know, a first world problem for sure, but sweeping changes out of the blue without giving users an option to retain the look they prefer… it’s a real struggle.
So, I’m going to have to experiment with how I take and share my project photos here on out. I may just stick to square photos for landscape cards, but for portrait cards it looks like 4:5 is the way forward.
And here’s the first project for the new grid ratio:

So this card design is actually inspired by a Riffle Paper Co. ad a friend recently shared (for their Juliet collection I believe).
Well, I found a great stencil set in my stash to try out the layout and similar colours: Pinkfresh Studio’s Folk Floral Print layering stencils.
I had previously done some ink blending on a card base that I didn’t end up using, so the Blush background was ready to go and totally dry before I went in with the different stencils.
Once all the steps were done, I used pencils and a white pen to add some details.
For my sentiment, I grabbed the All Kinds of Happy stamps and shadow dies from The Greetery, and used one of the Sentiment Suite Basics banners for the rest of the sentiment.
I added a few Nuvo drops as finishing accents, and there we go!
