Wow! We’ve hit the first Friday of a new month and that means it’s time for a new elemental inspiration challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog.
And what a lovely photo Kathy has chosen for us:
Here’s my take on these elements:
Stamps: Hero Arts – Color Layering Sea & Sky, Hero Arts – Color Layering Waves
Dies: The Stamp Market – Jumbo Tag
Stencil: Altenew – Watercolor Stripes
Other: Distress Ink
I went with Sea, Sand, Horizontal Stripes (to mimic the shiplap behind the surfboards), and a Shell. 🙂
This was my first time using the Color Layering waves and sea and sky stamps from Hero Arts. The waves in particular are smaller than the same stamps released in the original kit so don’t fill the full 4.25″ width of an A2 US card, but with the Jumbo Tag from The Stamp Market you can cut out a perfect snapshot.
After creating my waves with Altenew inks, I used my blending make-up brushes from amazon to create the sky (Tumbled Glass and Broken China, with a little Cracked Pistachio thrown in for good measure) and then blended the bottom of the tag with Old Paper and Antique Linen for the sandy beach, leaving a bit of white for the waves on the shore.
I then stamped the sail boat and seagulls in Charcoal ink, and the sentiment in LF Walnut ink, adding the starfish and shell in LF Pizza Crust ink.
To finish it all off I used an ancient scrap of Bazzill Kachina cardstock for the main background, but first blended Cracked Pistachio onto it through an Altenew stencil for a subtle stripe.
And as a final touch I tied some jute twine through the hole in the tag for a nautical beachy vibe. 🙂
I’m now wondering what other colour combos to use for some sea views – I like how you can use the waves as shown above for a horizon, or turn the stamps upside down for choppy waters.
