Well, it’s my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog this week, and I’ve chosen something I love seeing on cards.
An opening element – it could be something interactive that makes the sentiment or a feature pop out or be revealed, or it could just be a fancy aperture.
Which is what I’ve gone with!

The Strawberry Jam dies from Hello Bluebird include a die that creates the perfect aperture for a strawberry vine frame. So I wanted to create a little peek-a-boo scene using it and the other stamps in this set. I’m no master with the Copics and only have a set of Ciaos with many of the in-between colours missing, but I make do with what I’ve got as best as possible. 🙂 Thankfully there’s enough variety in browns and some greens to fit the bill here.
I had an enjoyable session colouring all the stamped out bits and pieces (while listening to Alan and Mel on catch-up) – then wondered how best to present them.
The aperture fits better on a square card, so I just created a little background with green and white cardstock inked with Distress Oxides for the grass and sky.
The Spring Farmhouse paper pad from Simple Stories has a lot of patterns that pair nicely with the look of Hello Bluebird designs, and the blue gingham is perfect for this picnic scene.
I added a bit of interest with a cross-stitch square die and some wooden board paper (from a very old MME 6×6 pad) to bring it all together.
Finally, a sentiment for many an occasion was found in my Flora & Fauna Everyday Words stamp set.
And of course, Nuvo drops provided the right finishing touch. 🙂
