This week it’s my turn to set the challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. I’ve challenged everyone to create a card in celebration of midsummer’s day, with extra gold stars if you make something inspired by Shaespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 😉
For my card I took inspiration from the lovely sunsets we usually see around this time of year, when the hot afternoon sun creates a blazing evening sky of yellows, pinks and reds…
Well it would if the sun was out more often this month!

It’s hard to make out in the photos, but over the top of the Distress Oxide blending I also splattered watered down ink of the same colours, plus gold and opera pink Gansai Tambi paint, a few spritzes of Mr Huey’s opaque white and shimmer spray and some more water for good measure.
The background really shimmers when it catches the light.
As for the sentiment, I do wish that I’d gone with a more peachy ink, like Lawn Fawn Apricot or Peach Fuzz, to go with the Peachy Keen ink rather than the Mango Smoothie Altenew ink but I know for next time now!
I masked off the area I’d cut out for the sentiment on my background panel before blending with Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, and Worn Lipstick to create the yellow through orange tone you see. I also splattered that background with paint for added specks of colour.
Finally clear and gold sequins and clear Nuvo Drops brought everything nicely together.
