Well, after recent warm and sunny weather, I'm definitely in the mood for spring colours.
This month's card prompt will definitely appeal if you're in a similar mood:
Focus colour: Any pastel tone
It may be a bit late for Easter cards, but there's plenty of scope for every occasion in this month's prompt. Here are a few ideas to get you started (in no particular order…):
- Slimline cards – the street photo made me think of a tall card, and slimline cards definitely seem to be a big trend right now. You don't need any special supplies or dies to create this look and if you've not made a slimline card before, they're definitely fun and a bit different from regular card formats.
- Buttons – do you too have a stash of buttons seeing little action these days? I really hopped on the button trend back in the day and have some lovely October Afternoon button collections that I'm slowly making my way through. Why not include a nice decorative button as part of a bow or ephemera cluster, or even use them to accent larger images, for example as a flower centre, berries on top of a cupcake, wheels on a car. With a little doodling you could actually create a design around the buttons.
- Paint pot arrangement – use the arrangement of the circular paint pots as a sketch. The circles can represent apertures or circular elements on your card, you could even use buttons to replicate this layout. You could go with a 2 x 3 arrangement, 3 x 3 arrangement, 4 x 2 arrangement, and so on.
- A rainbow of colours – how about a pastel take on the rainbow? Follow the colours shown in the prompt or use different coloured cardstock for the letters of a sentiment/elements in a die cut.
- Floral print/tulips – florals are always a great choice. I love those hand-painted looking florals in the image – they'd make a lovely background paper, Or you can make a flower like tulips the main focus of your design, but really any floral you feature on your card would do the job.
- Paint/ink – there's also plenty of scope to get your paintbrushes or blending brushes out to create your own backgrounds or to colour in images.
- Pencils – pencils are also a great colouring medium if that's your thing. Why not sharpen your skills by following a tutorial online or just experiment with a few shades? The arrangement of the pencils in the image could also be interpreted as a zigzag, pinked edge, or stripes.
- Sun/sky/sea – anything that conjures up one of these elements will work, plus item 2 in the image would also work as a card sketch.
- Houses/city skyline – these work really well on new home cards, so if you need to make one of those, here's your chance!
- Numbers – feature a number on your card.
