My Sweet Valentine | Daring Cardmakers Challenge

This week over on the Daring Cardmakers blog, Dawn is setting the challenge and the of course with Valentine’s Day just around the corner that’s the theme!

Plenty of scope for reds and pinks and hearts, of course.

As I don’t make Valentine’s cards, I switched up the theme slightly to celebrate Galentine’s Day which is on the 13th of Feb.

Here’s the card I made:

I knew I wanted to keep things clean and simple, so my hearts would stand out: enter the Happy Heart cover die from The Stamp Market.

It’s designed to be a thin heart frame on a card front, but I had lots of the hearts already cut out from previous projects, so instead of using the frame I stamped on the hearts in different shades of pink and red using the You Matter stamp from Concord & 9th, and pieced the hearts back into the frame on my card front, before removing the outline.

Finally, I added a simple sentiment from MFT on the mini postal die cut and cut another from grey cardstock and used my craft knife to turn it into a frame.

But crafting time wasn’t over just yet….

While I had the coverplate die out, I made another card with the same ink colours and more of those heart cutouts I had left over from previous craft sessions

This time, to add colour, I pushed the heart cutouts into the ink pads to cover them with ink – the colours come out a lot darker using this technique as the card soaks up a lot more ink.

So I had to leave the hearts to dry out properly before I could stick them back into the coverplate outline. I used 3D foam tape this time to make them pop up more from the coverplate outline.

Finally, I added a small greeting from the Everyday Greetings set from The Stamp Market and added a few sequins to finish it off.
