I may be full of cold and feeling like it’s deepest autumn rather than summer, buuuut the best way to chase the dreary grey away is with some full on colour!
Today’s card features a couple of recent purchases making their début on my craft desk.
Namely the All Lined Up stamps from The Stamp Market and the Watercolor Stripes stencil by Altenew.
It’s been a while since I did some stencilling but I’ve been on a watercolour and painterly kick lately so this was the perfect time to combine the two.
Oh and did I mention it would be a rainbow take on the colours? 😉

For this card I actually started with the sentiment first. I wanted to do a bit of watercolouring with Distress Oxides around those heat embossed letters and once I’d picked my rainbow out (see supplies below for colours). Once painted, I combined added a smaller sentiment from my trusted Avery Elle Simple Sentiments set (my go-to set for this size of sentiment it seems).
I wanted to reflect the rainbow colours in the background. I used my blending brushes from amazon on the stencil – I did think the smaller brushes would be the best to fit in these lines when I masked them off with post-its, but the best results were achieved using the larger brush heads. They provide much quicker and more even coverage. It’s just a shame you can’t buy the medium brushes as a set. 😉
I gave the background a spritz with water while the stencil was still in place and left it to dry, then when I removed the stencil I added some more flicks of water for more interest.
I decided on black card to mount the sentiment for maximum contrast and added some sequins as a finishing touch. 🙂
Right, it’s time for another mug of ginger spice tea and some telly.
